Flexibility is a major component of every gymnasts routines, degrees of flexibility are worth tenths of points in a gymnasts routine (which for elite athletes in huge) . Apparently though, just the simple splits and gaining flexibility through normal stretching is no longer enough. Check out Bend It and article from popsci.com They are essentially using vibrating boxes in order to help gymnasts increase their flexibility anywhere from 20-100%!
Gymnast Using Flexibility Enhancing Device |
This is definitely an interesting contraption and I have no idea if its currently being used or not but devices such as these could definitely bring about more changes in the expectations of the sport as far as flexibility goes.

All I have to say is that the idea of doing the splits with my thigh on a vibrating box sounds very painful to say the least. Props to those who undergo this, but I don't think I have what it takes to try this!
Also, great design. I like your design a lot.
What Aaron said.
I like the design too, but wish that posts also scrolled at the bottom--it's somewhat counterintuitive to click through by topic, and I don't know if all readers will have the patience.
Also, a pic of the device would be great.
Aaron- Thanks! Not that its any less painful but back when I was doing gymnastics/dance we used to just have to use matts to put our front legs on in order to get past the regular split. Its definitely crazy how technology is changing sports.
Jen- That's not something I can change, should I maybe change the layout? The archive lists everything on the side still. I added the picture in as well.
Well props to you guys because I am just not built for that stuff. I went to yoga the other day and we were trying the splits. They had us go down as far as we could and then use that yoga block thingy to give us some support by putting it under our "sitting bone." Let's just say I needed a bigger block haha!
